Default For the first time witness to all the meat over the streets on Yawmul Eid ul Adha-

Assalamualikum Wara7matulla:

I was truly shocked today as I experienced by first Eid ul Adha over in this country- when I witnessed for the first time in my life, the sacrifices of different kinds of meat going on due to Eid ul-Adha. Sub7anAllah Wallahi ive never seen scenes like that I have today- all the apartment buildings had a place in their bottom garages for the cows and goats that brothers and sisters brought for their sacrifices. They had all bought the meat the day before, and after 9 am all the slaughtering began. Unfortunately I did not witness and experience the actual slaughtering of the animals- but I have heard lots of eye witness accounts from some of my family members here. They were saying how its a heck of a fight getting a cow down (takes about 7-8 men for some of the cows) and once you get them down its a whole new challenge to keep them down and then actually have the process get through. Some men are thrown down by the animals, end up getting bruises and cuts (May Allah reward them for their efforts- Aameen). My sister who was also eye witness to some of the slaughterings said that there is extreme amounts of blood that pour out right when the throat of the animal is cut. She also mentioned how the cows make such a loud scream, a very unique one she said..one she couldnt explain- Sub7anAllah.

When I went out with a whole bunch of my family members- in some parts of the city, streets were filled with blood and water was being thrown around in order to clean out the streets. You could smell the "fragrance" that was all over. Can you imagine something like this out in the streets of the west? Would it drive westerners nuts and have them disgusted for days, weeks, months, years or what?

I know for me, coming from NY it's just all soo new to me- the poverty, the people without body parts, the acting like the poor just dont exist, the arrogance, the culture, but Sub7anAllah behind it all such a lesson and new version of life of this dunya that even thought I had deen I failed to see and experience in my past years- the TRUE face of this life- a vision and image that we all too easily forget due to our surroundings. It felt like Eid- it felt like a day of sacrifice- you can literally witness all the meat that was being sent around to everyone's homes, all the poor people stacking up in order to get some of the meat- Sub7anAllah...it felt good- even though the women dont go to the Masaajid for the Eid prayer, the women just go out to even more extremes in terms of Tabarruj and most people forget the TRUE purpose of eid.. (lets not forget all their other "eids" that they have made up for themselves, ie birthdays, new years, marriage days, etc)- it still felt like eid to me because of all the meat around and just the mere sight of people slautering, giving, smiling, eating.....it felt like Eid...but will I wonder was that our last Eid- will we live till the next eid?

No guarantee- the two days of Eid (asides from Friday) are over until a whole other year- lets truly work hard and strive to better ourselves this year so next eid we can enjoy our Eid (bi ithnillah taa a'la) with a heart that knows the previous year was a year in which we increased in Taqwaa and khair- and we can smile perhaps in knowing we came to better terms for preparation...

Wassalaam

Asalamualaikum wr wb
Me and my family have made hijrah wal humdulillah and we have been a witness to the same thing mashaAllah. My wife nearly got sick from the "fragrance" that you spoke of.

We are from the upper east coast as well so I imagen we have some of the same issues with our new home towns(the good the bad and the ugly).

I read your intro post and subhanaAllah we have seen the same thing were we are now. The muslims here are not like back home(generaly, I don't mean there are no good ones but I see what you meant by either this or that).

If you don't mind; what country did you move to?
We came to Egypt.
