The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“The believer is not given to cursing, slandering or obscene and foul speech.”

Default I saw death today

Asalamualaikum Wr Wb

I hope that you all will benifit from this as I did.

Today in my town there was Janzah(one of the benifits of living in the lands of the muslims). I saw my fate being carried off into a hurse. I saw the mother or wife of this person, and I think; this is going to be my wife or my mother or someone who knows me.

Then we all got on a truck and followed the body to the grave yard. I enter the grave yard and see people gatherd around this hole in the ground, the same hole that I will go in. The body is burried and we leave.

SubhanAllah. We seem to think that we will answer these angles when they ask; "Who is your Lord, What is your Deen and who is your Prophet?!?"

Just think; would you be able to answer someone if they had a voice of thunder and woke you out of your sleep in the middle of the night and asked you a simple question like "what is 2 +2!?!?"

Out of complete and utter fear you know well you would be to scared to answer.("Who is this, what going on, where am I!?!?")

What gives us such surety that we will answer the Mala'ikah so easly when we most likely wouldn't be able to answer a regular man in the middle of the night with a regular question that we all know?

wa 'alaykum assalaam,

Good reminder.

I believe performing the ghusl on a deceased person also brings death to reality, its that closeness to a grave or a body that makes one realise that very soon, we will be in their place whilst somebody else is gonna be washing and burying us.

If anyone gets a chance to wash a body, I'd advise them to take that chance...it is very humbling, plus there's reward involved, inshAllaah.

You just have to think about it, to see it.

Walaikumassalaam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu,

JazakumAllah khair for starting this thread and sharing your experiance. Its a great reminder.

I just recalled an experiance i had regarding this matter years back.
We were having a sisters halaqa in the prayer room of our masjid and two elder ladies were washing the body of a lady who had passed away downstairs.
In the middle of our halaqa, one of the ladies came up and asked 3 of us to come down and watch the way they watched the body, because this would be our job in the future.
I volunteered bravely and thought it would be so cool to watch this
.. but as i watched the lady being washed, i begin to see myself in that situation.. so helpless.. so lifeless... and i started to get sick.

I ran to the washroom and sat there crying for 5 minutes. I'm not sure why i cried .. i didn't even understand why i was crying.. but tears just continued to come down.

I wiped my tears and joined my friends pretending nothing had happened but i could see from their faces that they in the same state that i was in.. and Allah knows best.

And indeed every soul shall taste death.

Book(Kitaab): Az-Zuhd.
Author(al-Mu'alif): Al-Imaam Abdullaah Bin Al Mubarak

I fell In love with the chapter in regards to Following Funeral Processions(Janaa'iz), It braught forth proof and sayings of the Rasul( sallaahu 'alayhee wa salam ) and the Salaf, in regards to how it is recommanded to follow funeral processions, as it will remind you of death and keep it on your mind...I was thinking Imagin befriending those who are sick, for the sake of Allaah. Spending time with them and just seeing how they live their life when they know they dont have much long to go, they are more aware...it does remind us of death and the after life...

It was Reported that The Rasul( sallaahu 'alayhee wa salam ) Said:

"عودوا المرضى واتبعوا الجنائز يذكركم الآخرة"

'Visit the sick and follow the procession of funerals It will remind you of the After Life."

After reading the above and a few other qoutes, I started to think maybe I should befriend more of those sisters who are for example sick or deathly ill, who dont have much longer to live(of course we dont have 'ilm of al ghayb, or when one is to pass) But the thought came to mind.

When that thought came to mind I began to question myself "Am I selfish, for wanting that, or feeling that way?" after reflecting upon that... I thought to myself, No.

Why? Because, what better reason is there to befriend someone then for the sake of Allaah? for the sake of remembering Him and death and the after life, that friendship will probably be more pure, have more meaning and be filled with more love.

yes brother daniel i saw the title of this thread a few times and didn't click on it till now and then i saw you had started it and i got concerned for you and your family

excellent reminder

i remember at your house you had a book called "the spectacle of death" and aside from the fact it is sufish and has a lot of weak or crazy narrations, it was a good book and good reminder

i used to read it all day in high school when i was 15 - my teachers thought i was crazy (plus i used to be a spaced out sufi)

either way that book was a classic...

I actually thought it was about the slaughterings since it was 'eid. I was gonna say I saw a few too! But even then, as you watch the slaughterings, you start thinking about that knife upon your neck.
