Default Kids Fasting - y'gotta love 'em!

My daughter is just five, so I realise fasting isn't incumbent upon her but this morning she absolutely insisted that I let her fast today. So I wrote a note for the teacher and gave her a pack lunch (just in case).

So when I picked her up this evening the first thing I asked her was:

"Are you still fasting?"
"Yes!"

"You didn't eat anything?"
"I didn't eat anything - 'cept for my lunch."

"Well that's not really fasting then, is it?"
"Yeah but, I was hungry!"

"But I'm fasting now!"

Ma sha Allah, Kids!

My daughter [7 years old] fasts properly Masha'Allah, until about 2 hours before iftar. She has a snack, and then resumes fasting.

My son [6 years old] wakes up, has a date or a samosa, fasts for 2 hours, has a drink, then lunch. After this he resumes fasting... until snack time, then fasts a bit until iftaar. This is what I have observed, but I am sure he sneaks into the kitchen a couple of times in between all of this for biscuits or dates etc, as both packs have somehow diminished after he walks out of the kitchen.

My daughter pretends to be Adam from Adam's World Ramadan Mubarak episode when fasting, so I find her staring at samosas in the kitchen, or the jug of water. Then she says "Take it all way Mum! I can really smell the samosas"

heh, masha Allaah...

Usually when it is around iftaar time, everybody gathers around the floor mat (we eat sitting on the floor), make dua, and then wait to break our fast. Now my little bro and sis dont fast, but they do what everyone else does, they sit around looking at the food as if they been fasting all day and are waiting to break their fast, heh. In fact, they act more hungry than us. When kids see or smell good food, subHaan Allaah, they run like pigeons to it. It's a funny sight, actually.

Oh, I know a du'a that would really make you happy :P

May Allah make your children from amongst the shuhadaa' and may He bless you with the rewards of bringing up the children as such. Ameen.
