Default Booky or Scholars

assalamwalaykuum

Whoever knows me personally, knows that I am obsessed with reading and studying islam. I consider myself a booky though because I have not sat with the scholars, something I want in my life in the future. For instance you can put me in a book store for hours and hours and I will not get bored.

However I had a thought I met a few scholars not for too long, but I felt very good just being around them for a little while.

I met shaykh bashir Yusuf shill, 2 weeks ago, I was in the neighborhood so I just wanted to see him, and the few moments I spent with him I felt very good.

I also met Brother Khalid Yaseen, and I felt very good too.

I guess spending time with the scholars and righteous preachers upon truth is a lot cooler then the equal amount of time with books.

I have plans on visiting few scholars in jail, like sh. ahmad jibril and shaikh ali tamimi.

I am doing a little project, and I want their blessing for the project.

I believe that Ahmad Jibreel is currently in solitary confinement, may Allaah hasten his release.

But, yes, as you say, to see the concepts that you so enjoy reading about actualized into a living breathing person sitting right next to you is quite a nice experience.

I am a booky as well wal humdulillah. I was just in Darssalam bookstore today and my wife had to get my son to pull me away.

I do agree with you about the scholars as well.

I have gotten the chance to meet Sheikh Jamil Zeno who was a wonderful host as well as an exelent teacher mashaAllah. Sheikh Saffar was so nice to me, just talking with him seeing the way he smiled and treated me like I was the only person in the room thaught me akhlaq.

May Allah(swt) make it that whatever knowledge He gives us He makes it that we put it to practise weather it is from sheukh or books.

I am serious, so many woman in these times seem to think that it is only men who should be the carriers of knowledge.

If I am not mistaken Sheikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah had 10 woman teachers.

Please do tell us about your meeting with Sheilk Jameel and Sheikh Safar. I am most eager to know especially having described them in such an exemplary manner.

What I don't understand is why do so many sisters go into secular education? Why go to college? I mean, for men I can understand because they'll need to earn a living, but why the sisters? Now you might say, "Ok, NaseehaMan, then if they don't go to school, then what'll they do? Sit home all day?" Well, how about getting an Islamic education? It would be SOOO much more useful for you. You sisters could be a new a generation of scholars, bringing up your children in the right way with the correct Islam. You could be the key to fighting off ignorance in Muslim communities. But instead, you opt to wasting your time learning things you'll probably never use. And why? It's not like you NEED to work, right? I beseech you to take the more beneficial path.

Are there same opportunities for learning/studying Islaam for men and women?
